Have your fingerprints taken outside Canada by a local police authority or an authorized fingerprinting service.

Original ink and roll fingerprints are required.

Are scanned, emailed, or photocopied fingerprints accepted?

No. The RCMP does not accept scanned, emailed, or photocopied fingerprints. Only original ink fingerprint cards sent by mail or courier can be processed.

Can I use FBI FD-258 fingerprint cards?

Yes. The RCMP accepts FBI FD-258 fingerprint cards for applicants outside Canada, provided the fingerprints are taken correctly using ink and roll impressions and the card is submitted in its original form.

Which fingerprint cards are accepted by the RCMP?

The RCMP accepts original ink and roll fingerprints submitted on either the RCMP form C-216C or the FBI FD-258 fingerprint card. All fingerprints must be clear, legible, and taken by an authorized fingerprinting agency.

Can you digitize forms other than the RCMP fingerprint form C-216?

How long will it take to receive the RCMP Clearance Letter?

The processing times for all electronic fingerprint submissions submitted to the RCMP’s Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services (CCRTIS) varies from 3 business days to 120 days.

If the applicant does not have a criminal record and there is no match to an RCMP fingerprint record then processing is complete in 72 hours. RCMP will mail the results back to the applicant or the designated third party within 72 hours. Please allow extra time  for delivery by Canada Post.

In cases where the applicant does have a criminal record or there is a match to an RCMP fingerprint record then the processing time could be up to 120 days or longer. Keeping in view the above factors please allow sufficient time for receiving the results by regular mail before making any status update inquiries.
