What Is a DNA Profile?

A DNA profile is a unique genetic identification record created from a person’s DNA sample. It can be used for personal records, future identification, or comparison in relationship DNA testing when needed.

A DNA profile does not diagnose health conditions and is not a medical genetic test.

Why Acquire a Permanent DNA Profile?

A secure genetic record serves several critical legal and personal safeguards:

Future Relationship Verification: Provides a baseline profile if an individual passes away and family relationships (such as paternity or estate claims) are contested later.

Estate & Inheritance Protection: Ensures an unalterable biological record is on file to support or protect estate planning.

Immigration & Legal Preparation: Establishes a verifiable standard for complex identity validation cases.

Human Identification Reference: Acts as a vital, permanent identity record for individuals working in high-risk environments or for missing person contingencies.

How the Testing Process Works

To maintain a secure chain of custody and accurate records, we use a simple, streamlined collection process.

1. Schedule & Prepare:
Takes 2 minutes.

Book your clinic appointment quickly online or by phone. Please remember to bring a valid government photo ID to verify your credentials upon arrival.

2. Painless Collection:
Under 5 minutes.

Our trained forensic collector will perform a quick and gentle cheek swab. The entire non-invasive process is completely painless and requires no needles.

3. Processing & Release:  7–10 business days.

Your sealed sample is sent directly to our accredited laboratory for analysis. Once complete, your certified genetic record is securely and confidentially released.

FAQ: DNA Profiles

Do I need to schedule an appointment, or can I walk in?

DNA testing at Forensics Canada Inc. is by appointment only. To ensure absolute confidentiality, strict chain-of-custody protocols, and a dedicated forensic collector to process your identity verification, we do not accept walk-in clients for DNA profiling.

Please ensure you book your date and time in advance by calling 416-290-1919 or using our online booking portal before visiting our Scarborough office.

How confidential is my genetic data?

We follow rigorous privacy protocols. Your genetic samples and the resulting documentation are never shared with public registries, insurance providers, or external databases. Your file is handled with absolute forensic discretion.

Can my profile be saved and utilized at a later date?

Absolutely. Because your DNA profile maps specific, unchanging genetic markers (STRs), your digital or physical report can be compared against future legal samples indefinitely if relationship verification or identification needs arise.

Is a DNA profile test the same thing as a paternity test?

No. A DNA profile generates an unattached, singular genetic blueprint belonging strictly to one person. A paternity test explicitly compares two or more pre-existing profiles together to calculate the statistical probability of a biological father-child relationship.
